Virtual Physical Therapy

Physical Therapy is still an option, even with COVID-19!

In support of government regulations for COVID-19, the UBC Physical Therapy & Research Clinic has shifted our services to virtual sessions.

Virtual physical therapy allows us to deliver rehabilitation services via telecommunication. We will be using our clinic management software, Jane; this is the same platform we use to send appointment reminders and online bookings notifications. It’s super easy to have a virtual appointment – you just need a cell phone or computer with a microphone and a camera and a little space to move around.

To connect to a Jane telerehabilitation appointment, you will need the following:
  • An appointment – Call, email or use the Jane online booking platform
  • Jane Account (this is the account you use to make an online booking)
  • Desktop/laptop computer with webcam and microphone and the Chrome web browser
  • OR your smartphone with the Jane App downloaded
  • Access to Wi-Fi or data
  • A private space for your conversation, including space to potentially move and perform exercises

 The Nitty-Gritty of Virtual Care:
  • You must be within the province of British Columbia for the duration of the virtual care appointment.
  • The traffic is encrypted in transit and none of the data is stored anywhere at any time – the video connection flows directly between each user’s web browser and completely bypasses the Jane servers, helping to keep you safe online
  • Both clients and staff must be signed into their secure Jane account to access the virtual care appointment
    – Upon confirming ability to participate in a video call, we will ask for your personal information to confirm who you are in accordance with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act. All information that you provide, including information about your care, will be kept confidential.
